Red currant dream - Bea Palya's first book
I wrote a book. Since than I love playing music even more.
When I was a kid, my favourite hiding place was the two red currant bushes at the end of our garden. I used to scribble in the soft, hot sand, and I nibbled on the sometimes still unripe red currants. A pear tree in front of me, a nut tree behind, from all sides bunches of fruit surrounded me. This was my secret hideaway corner where I dreamt about what I would be when I grew up.
And now I’ve grown up and written a book about the time between the red currant bushes and now. I thought that having travelled this road through words, I’d visit these internal regions through sound and voice as well.
I’ve listened to all the songs I’ve written in the past fifteen years. Along with the new recordings, I revisited all my old concert recordings, band and solo albums. I felt the fear that a mother feels for her child when I heard some of the sounds.
I’ve selected from among those songs, choosing those that ring truest in my ears and in my heart.
And just like the adulthood that I dreamt for myself under the red currant bushes, my life resonates with music, rich and vibrant. And perhaps the most valuable treasures are yet to be discovered...
